The overlooked symptoms of IBS (and a new way forward)”

When people think of IBS, they often picture someone who’s ‘just a bit bloated’ or who needs to ‘run to the loo sometimes’.

But if you live with IBS, you know that’s only scratching the surface.

For many of the clients I work with, IBS affects everything. It’s not just a gut thing — it’s an everyday life thing.

Here are some of the symptoms I hear about most often:

  • Bloating that gets worse as the day goes on (and makes you feel like you’re smuggling a beach ball by dinner)
  • Cramps that come out of nowhere and knock the wind out of you
  • Constipation so stubborn it feels like your gut has gone on strike
  • Sudden urgency — one minute you’re fine, the next you’re scanning for the nearest toilet
  • Feeling wiped out and foggy, like your energy has been sucked dry
  • Worry about what to eat, when to eat, and whether food will trigger symptoms (again)
  • Anxiety that builds before meals, nights out, or even a short car journey

And then there’s the emotional stuff:

  • Cancelling plans (again) because your gut is acting up
  • Dreading holidays or weekends away
  • Feeling ashamed, fed up, or just done
  • Being told it’s “just stress” — when in reality, no one’s giving you real answers

The truth is: IBS is unpredictable, exhausting and often misunderstood.

Many of my clients have already tried the usual things – cutting out food groups, trying probiotics, taking meds – and still feel stuck. What’s missing is an approach that looks at the whole picture.

That’s exactly what I’ve been working on behind the scenes.

Over the last few months, I’ve poured everything I know as a gut health dietitian — plus the power of gut-directed hypnotherapy — into a brand-new programme.

It’s called the Calm Gut Formula, and it’s designed to support people with IBS in a completely new way — one that goes beyond just food lists and quick fixes.

Because managing IBS shouldn’t mean shrinking your life to fit around your symptoms.

If any of this sounds familiar, keep an eye on your inbox (or pop over to my Instagram @gut_health_matters) — I’ll be sharing more about it very soon.

Here’s to a calmer gut — and the freedom to enjoy life again
